The Odessa metropolitan statistical area saw its unemployment rate drop to 2.9 percent from 3.2 percent in June, tying Midland’s western neighbor with Amarillo for the state’s second lowest unemployment.
Houston pipeline firm Targa Resources said it is teaming up with a bevy of partners to build a 600-mile natural gas pipeline system from West Texas' Permian Basin to the Corpus Christi and Houston regions.
Permian Basin crude oil and natural gas production growth is so strong, it's outpacing pipeline projects that have yet to be fully designed, much less built. Midland and Odessa can expect to see new pipeline projects soon.
The oil and gas industry in the West Texas and New Mexico continues to grow as more and more permian rigs pop up. According to “Permian Basin Oil and Gas Magazine”, there are four counties within the Permian Basin that each have at least 50 rigs.
